Simon Popham


A move to Blenheim from Christchurch in 2016, saw Simon return to his passion for musical theatre after a 20 year hiatus. First appearing for BMT in the ensemble for "Annie" in 2017, he has been involved in every major show since: either in the stage crew or most recently, in the pit with the band playing keyboard in "Priscilla Queen of the Desert".


The opportunity to combine both of his loves of playing piano and being on stage was too good to miss out on, and he appeared in the 2021 version of "Stars in Your Eyes" as Elton John, fulfilling a long-held dream of playing the grand piano in the ASB Theatre. This ultimately gave him the confidence to combine both talents again when he took on the role of Andy in the 2022 cabaret dinner theatre show, "Blue Eyes".


Not surprisingly, the desire to be back on the big stage has been strong, and he is delighted to be performing alongside the wonderful cast of "Joseph".


Simon is grateful for the support of his family, as well as the amazing team he leads at Briscoes / Rebel Sport, while he pursues his passion.
